The journey to Denmark..

Where do I start? In Stroud renovating the flat at 31 High Street, keeping as many of the original materials and uncovering original fireplaces and layers of wall coverings. The building originally owned by Pritchard’s butchers then had a longstanding tenant of Inprint, an antiquarian bookshop. When Mike and Joy Goodenough retired leaving the premises I found myself again renovating the shop space. The original tiles were uncovered when removing shelving and the marble originally for displaying meat along with the position on the high street allows for interesting window displays.

Meeting a lifelong friend, talking about our babies knitted trousers, I was introduced to the food, design and traditions of Denmark. I now travel over Jutland, Fyn and Sjaelland finding retro and new Danish design and many good recipes, ingredients whilst enjoying their food culture. Dansk Gypsy sells the best of what I have found and each journey brings more inspiration. It is at the core of my concept that everyone should be able to participate - the fact that there is something for everyone in all price ranges.

What is important is not what is spent, but more the joy it gives to have found something special that defines a personal style. Something that lasts for years to come.

I look forward to seeing you with us and giving you the warmest welcome and best service.
