Having the opportunity to holiday in the same country means you learn more about food traditions, colloquial phrases and daily habits. The summer allows for most meals outside, breakfast is rye bread, cheese and a ‘smiling’ egg, ‘smilende æg’ a term for soft but not runny. Danish Pastries called Wiener brød in Nordic countries, coming from Austrian.

The coffee beans of choice are processed by Prolog and in the summer house a filter coffee is made in a Moccamaster, pouring into the Stelton flask for a leisurely breakfast, making plans for the day. Me and the dogs, Maeve and Maurice will have been to the beach already.

There is always a desire to bring some of the treats home, now with the spisehus at Dansk Gypsy I can share these at 31 High Street too. Shower buns, named as they can be made in the time it takes to shower are perfect just out of the oven with a slice of cheese with caraway seed. We like to add plum or blackcurrant jam preserved from the garden.
